In 2023, The Royal Latin School celebrates its 600th Anniversary, making it one of the oldest schools in England and, we believe, the 100th oldest surviving school in the world.
Our school has an extraordinary story to tell, and since 2011 when the Heritage Lottery Fund first funded an Archive Room at the school, we have been focused on collecting as many documents, photographs and other items as possible.Importantly, we’ve also been collecting the memories and stories of those who know and love the school, in an effort to begin to reflect the changing nature of the school over the decades, generations and centuries.
This online Archive has been created by the school, in conjunction with an archive digitisation specialist, as part of the school’s 600th Anniversary initiatives in 2023. We are wholly committed to properly preserving and cataloging as much of the content in our Archive Room in school as possible, so that we can share the unique and precious items gifted to us by Old Latins (and their families) with our community of Old Latins and their families, staff, students, and those interested in local heritage. All of this work builds on the decades of careful work by former staff of the school and by Old Latins themselves, to locate, rescue and document the heritage of the school, and we remain indebted to their dedicated endeavours.
